Michael A. Clark

Michael A. Clark, 86, of Houlton, died peacefully October 18, 2020, at a local nursing home. He was born in Portland, August 2, 1934, to Alan H. and Corris (Hume) Clark.

Though born in Portland, Michael considered himself from Houlton. He attended Houlton schools and graduated from Houlton High School in 1954. He took many courses in many different institutions for higher education, graduating from Ricker College with a bachelor's degree in business management. After high school, Michael joined the Navy serving on both the Midway and Hornet aircraft carriers.

Michael's desire when he returned to Houlton after serving in the Navy, was to help make Houlton a better place to live. He helped in building the family business, Houlton Farms Dairy, with the start of the Presque Isle division. He was instrumental in the building of the dairy's ice cream division. He later went into business for himself opening M.A. Clark Men's Clothing Store. He spent most of his life in sales. He was a self-taught photographer.

A member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, he sang in the choir and served in many capacities. He was Exhalted Ruler of the Houlton Lodge of Elks, President of the Houlton Rotary Club and served as District Governor for Rotary. He received Paul Harris Fellow awards from the Rotary Club and the District. He served on many boards and worked on many projects in the community being most proud of the Boy and the Boot and the Houlton Amphitheater. He was awarded the "Outstanding Citizen of the Year 1979" by the Governor of Maine. He, along with his wife Deb, was instrumental in fundraising for the Houlton Community Arts Center by selling seats. For over 30 years, he had the pleasure of managing and playing timpani for McGill's community band. He was a Mason and was thrilled to be the tenor drummer for the Highlanders ... always a drummer!

Most important to Michael was his family. He is survived by his wife, Deb, of Houlton; daughter, Corris Pinette and husband, Ron, of Patten; son, Walter and his wife, Mary, of Southbridge, Mass.; son, Michael and his wife, Leslie, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; son, Eric, of Hermon, Maine; and son, David and his wife, Karalyn, of Las Vegas, Nev. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Aaron Smith (Sarah), Colleen Clark (Joe Bearor) and Kiley Pinette; Tabitha Clark and Bethany Clark; Arianne Clark; Josh Clark; Paige and Owen Clark; and beloved great-grandchildren, Booker and Emily.

Because of Covid, there will be a family only service and burial. A celebration of his life will be held in the summer at a McGill's Band concert.
